Earlier this year Democrats put forth legislation to give Hoosier families relief from their skyrocketing electric bills.
But, Rep. Jake Teshka (R-7th) voted no.
The legislation aimed to give Hoosiers the exact same tax breaks that multibillion-dollar tech giants get. Under Indiana law, qualified data centers are legally exempt from paying the state's 7% sales tax on both electricity and hardware purchases.
Jake Teshka supports giving tax breaks to billionaire tech companies, but opposes everyone else getting the exact same deal!
Of course Teshka is handsomely rewarded — His second largest donor is Indiana Commerce Secretary and data center kingpin Chuck Goodrich!

On January 27, 2026, during the legislative session for House Bill 1002 (Electric Utility Affordability), House Democrats introduced floor amendments—including Amendment 15 offered by Rep. Mike Andrade—that aimed to eliminate or suspend the 7% residential utility state sales tax to provide immediate financial relief to Hoosier families. Jake Teshka voted no.

February 2, 2026, Teshka voted in favor of House Bill 1333, a controversial land-use bill tailored to make it easier to build data centers on poor farmland without local public hearings.
Chuck Goodrich directly makes money off data centers. He is the CEO and owner of Gaylor Electric, one of the nation's largest non-union electrical construction firms. According to Goodrich himself in mid-2026, data center construction and infrastructure buildout now make up 50% to 60% of his company's business, putting the firm on track to hit $1 billion in revenue.
